Attai Chen is an artist who is primarily working in the medium of art jewellery. Chen was born in 1979, Jerusalem, Israel. Since 2007, he lives and works in Munich, Germany.
Between 2002-2006 he studied at the department of jewellery and fashion, the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem, receiving a B.F.A. degree.
From 2007 to 2011, Chen was studying at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich in the class of jewellery and hollowware under the supervision of Professor Künzli, receiving a diploma degree with honours in 2012.
Attai Chen’s work has been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide. His works are included in several public collections, among others: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (US); Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, New York (US); The Coda Museum, Apeldoorn (NL); The International Design Museum Munich (DE); The Israeli Museum of Art, Jerusalem (IL). Chen was awarded several grants and prizes, among them the “Herbert Hofmann” prize (DE) in 2011 and the “Andy” prize (IL) in 2014.
Besides his independent artistic career, Chen has taught in several Academies and Institutions, among them: RISD, Rhode Island (US); HDK, Gothenburg (SE); the department of jewellery and fashion at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem (IL); China University of Geosciences, the department of jewellery, Wuhan, Hubei (CN). Since 2016 he is a guest teacher at the Alchimia School of Contemporary Jewellery.
